Established in 1983, it began as a family business, which has shown remarkable growth over the years, focusing on sustainability, circular economy and innovation.
João Romana de Além was a visionary entrepreneur who began his career in the freight transport sector in Lisbon. He quickly realized that there was an opportunity to optimize the business, by identifying the potential to transform scrap metal into a lucrative source of income and in 1978 he began to devote himself entirely to the scrap metal trade.
Later, in 1983, he founded his first company, João Romana de Além Filhos, Lda., with the support of his wife and children.
João Romana de Além's vision and leadership allowed the company to grow and prosper, providing jobs and contributing to the local economy. Over time, the Ambigroup SGPS group was created and became an example of business success and environmental responsibility.

In addition to its scrap metal business, Ambigroup has also diversified its activities in line with market developments and emerging needs. The group now offers integrated solutions, including recycling and processing of materials, waste collection, transport, and treatment, as well as dismantling and demolition services.
The business has been passed down through generations, and today the children are the ones taking on the commitment to deliver our value proposition to companies and individuals who need our solutions.
